Class of 2027 Five-Star Announcement

There will be three five-star goalies in the first rankings, and all of them bring something different to the table. At 5-9, 170 pounds, Stake is definitely the smallest, and some schools might be wary of that. They shouldn’t be. He’s positionally-sound and does a great job of staying square to shooters. Stake is also very athletic with quick feet and more than willing to venture out of the cage in the clearing game. You’ll also rarely see him give up a bad goal. He’s consistently excellent.

Lawrenceville vs. Malvern Prep Standout

“After the third quarter, we were just, like, ‘this is what we came here for. This is why you go to Lawrenceville,” Stake said. “(Goalie coach) Coach (JackRunkel told me, ‘one play at a time. We have a great defensive unit that’s been by my side in every game that we’ve played. After our loss, we got together and put it behind us. Now we’re on a winning streak. It’s been great playing with these guys. On the last play, the defense did a great job of giving me a reasonable shot to save. I saw it the entire way.”

He usually does. It’s somewhat rare to see a sophomore starter in the cage at a program as good as Lawrenceville, even though Timmy Piacentini accomplished that for the Big Red before heading off to… the Big Red of Cornell. Stake’s personality is tailor-made for the pressure of being Lawrenceville’s starting goalie. He’s always talking to his teammates and to opposing shooters. Stake does an outstanding job of moving laterally and getting post to post. Even though he’s not the biggest goalie out there, he does a terrific job of taking up space and baiting shooters to take the shots he wants them to take.
