It had been a while since Ridgefield was able to beat Darien, one of Connecticut’s historic powerhouses.

Thursday, the Tigers found a way to alter the series history. Four-star sophomore Chris Colsey (Eclipse) set up a pair of goals and added one of his own to lead the Tigers to a 9-6 win over the Blue Wave. It marked Ridgefield’s first victory over Darien since 2018. That day, the Tigers stunned the heavily-favored Blue Wave to end Darien’s 76-game winning streak in FCIAC play.

Senior Brandon Penn was lights-out at the faceoff stripe. The Hobart signee won 16 of 19 faceoffs for the Tigers. His brother and fellow Hobart signee, Dylan, stopped nine shots to preserve the win for Ridgefield.

“You know, we haven’t beat this team since 2018,” Dylan Penn told Michael Fornabaio of Ruden Report. “So all practice (Wednesday), we’re saying ‘we’ve got to beat this team, finally and make something happen.’ We have a lack of history with them, you could say, losing since 2018, so this is one game that we had circled on our calendars. We really wanted this one.”

Jake Carney (Sacred Heart), Des Couri (Bentley) and Levi Kessler all tallied twice for the Tigers.
