Twenty-four years is a long time to go in between championships. That streak is finally over for Wilton (Conn.).

Backed by 12 stops from Evan Blankenship and two goals apiece from Caleb Rath (Express North) and David Sylvester, the Warriors doubled up New Canaan, 8-4, to capture the program’s first FCIAC title since 1999.

Wilton enters the Connecticut Class L state tournament as the No. 5 seed. New Canaan is the No. 4 seed. If both teams win, they’ll play each other again in the quarterfinals. The tournament gets underway Wednesday.
