Wednesday night gave Colorado’s top two teams a chance to firmly establish themselves as the team to beat in the state.

Ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the latest coaches’ pollsCherry Creek and Valor Christian squared off. Junior Denver commit Owen Burke (Denver Elite) snapped home a feed from senior Zander Diecidue (Team 91 Colorado) to give the Bruins the lead for good in a 9-7 triumph over the Eagles.

Brody Fisher (Team 91 Colorado) netted a hat trick, two of those goals coming off of Gus Blue assists. Blue finished with three helpers, while four-star sophomore Ollie Nolting (West Coast Starz) tallied a pair of goals. Utah-bound senior Alex Fredrich (Team 91 Colorado) owned the faceoff dot, collecting 13 wins in 15 attempts.

Junior Duke commit Buck Cunningham (Denver Elite) denied 11 shots sent his way for Valor. Sophomore Rush LaSelle bagged a hat trick and added an assist, while juniors Baden Brown (Team 91 Colorado) and Liam Goodwin (Team 91 Colorado) posted matching one-goal, one-assist efforts.
