Fairfield Prep and Darien didn’t wait long to bring out the drama in Connecticut.

The two state title contenders got right after it Saturday in what could be a preview of a June state tournament battle. Eclipse 2025 and Boston University commit Luke Shannehan was the hero for the Jesuits as he finished off a hat trick when he hammered home a shot for the game-winner in Fairfield Prep’s 8-7 overtime win over the Blue Wave.

“Our plays really weren’t working out that well in the first half,” Shannehan told CT Insider’s Michael Fornabaio. “We had two shorties on the right side, Finbar and Griffin Rothe. He slid off that one (defender), I hitched a little bit, it came on me, I just saw a beauty of a shot.”

Shannehan’s older brother and fellow BU commit Tim Shannehan (Eclipse) led the way with three goals and an assist. Sophomore Ben Bilodeau (Express North) paced the Blue Wave with three goals and an assist. Four-star senior goalie Carter Hagen (Eclipse / Loyola) stopped a dozen shots for Darien.
